We are pleased to announce that the Midwest AIDS Training + Education Center (MATEC) based at the University of Illinois in Chicago has been funded for another four years.
Additionally, our region has expanded to include Ohio, Kansas and Nebraska. MATEC-Indiana, housed at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, will continue to serve Indiana. With this new funding, comes change:
- Our regional website has been updated. The address is the same (matec.info), but the look and navigation is different.
- We have a new online registration system. It collects the same information as the old system, but it looks very different.
- The programs we offer have changed. We will continue to offer some of the same programs, but we will also be offering some new programming.
MATEC will continue to offer the following:
Minority AIDS Initiative – This includes our Clinician Scholars Program and other training programs targeting issues facing minority communities.
Expanded HIV Testing Initiative – Training for sites identified by the Indiana State Department of Health’s HIV/STD Division.
Base Programming – This is the training you think of when you think of MATEC-IN. Trainings for health care providers on a variety of topics as requested by the community. This year our base efforts are a small part of our grant. We will continue to support many of the re-occurring programs, but our ability to offer additional programming will be limited due to new MATEC initiatives.
MATEC is embarking on two new projects:
Practice Transformation – A new initiative focused on improving patient outcomes along the HIV care continuum by integrating principles of the patient-centered medical home model and integrated HIV care and behavioral health services. MATEC-IN has identified two clinics in Indianapolis that we will be working with over the next four years.
Interprofessional Education – A new project designed to train the faculty of health professions schools, graduate departments, or other programs, to better equip them to teach their students to address the health care needs of people living with HIV. MATEC-IN is partnering with the Center for Interprofessional Health Education and Practice (CIPHEP) at Indiana University to accomplish this work.
We hope this helps you to better understand the direction of MATEC regionally and locally. We look forward to continuing to provide you training, clinical observation experiences and clinical consultation for the next four years. With very best regards,
